Bishop Salifu Amoako, wife arrested over fatal East Legon accident

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako, in connection with a fatal accident that took place at East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

The accident, which involved their 16-year-old son, Elrad Salifu Amoako, led to the deaths of two people.

According to a police statement, Elrad, while driving a Jaguar SUV (GN 7801-20), crashed into a 4×4 Acura vehicle (GR 2542-23) driven by Joseph Ackah with four occupants.

The impact caused both vehicles to catch fire, burning beyond recognition.

The arrest of Bishop Elisha and his wife is part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, particularly given Elrad’s young age and the severity of the incident.

They are currently assisting authorities with further inquiries.

“…The parents of the 16-year-old suspect driver, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, are currently in custody, assisting the investigation.”

Meanwhile, the police added that a team from the Police Management Board, led by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, visited the bereaved family to commiserate with them and also visited the injured at the hospital.

” The Police would like to assure the public of a thorough investigation into the accident to bring closure to the affected family, as we continue to remember them in our prayers in this difficult time,” the statement added.
