Beginning October 10, 2024, the government will start distributing food aid to over 800,000 farmers impacted by the recent dry spell in the northern and middle regions of the country.
Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, announced that each farmer will receive a 25kg bag of rice and 100kg of maize.
During a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, the Abetifi MP emphasized that this effort is part of the government’s ongoing initiatives to mitigate the effects of the drought on farmers.
“Starting from October 10, food grants will be provided to more than 800,000 farmers across eight affected regions. Each farmer will receive 25kg of rice and 100kg of maize,” he said.
He also mentioned that to further assist the general public, an online grains market will be launched on the same day, allowing people to purchase maize and rice at affordable prices.
