This past weekend, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang joined the passionate members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) UK and Ireland Chapter for their fundraising dinner dance at the Mercure Hotel in Bedford. The event saw an enthusiastic gathering of Ghanaians in the diaspora, who remain deeply invested in the future of their homeland and are committed to supporting the NDC’s vision for Ghana.
Prof. Opoku Agyemang, the NDC’s running mate for the 2024 elections, shared critical insights from the party’s manifesto, focusing on transformative initiatives designed to reset the course of the nation. In her address, she highlighted pivotal policies, including the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank, the implementation of a 24-hour economy, and the creation of a specialised hospital for women and children. These initiatives are aimed at addressing critical social and economic challenges, empowering women, and improving access to healthcare.
She also touched on several other key proposals, including programs to uplift and empower women, “Operation Recover All Loot”—an anti-corruption initiative to recover misappropriated state assets—and enhancing the Free Senior High School (SHS) program to ensure it is more inclusive and better resourced. Prof. Opoku Agyemang underscored the importance of these reforms, stating, “We must work together to ensure a brighter future for the next generation.”
The attendees, many of whom are committed to contributing to Ghana’s development from abroad, expressed their unwavering support for the NDC’s agenda. The event, filled with lively discussions, highlighted the diaspora’s strong desire to be actively involved in reshaping the nation’s future.
As the night progressed, Prof. Opoku Agyemang called on everyone to get involved, emphasizing the power of collective action in achieving the party’s goals. “Let’s all get involved! Together, we can make a difference and build the Ghana we all dream of,” she urged, rallying supporters to back the NDC and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, under the campaign slogans #MahamaForPresident, #Vote8, and #JohnAndJane2024.
The event served as a crucial reminder of the strength and resolve of the NDC’s supporters abroad, as well as the shared vision of ensuring a prosperous and equitable future for all Ghanaians.
