Captain Smart, host of the popular Onua Maakye morning show, has made a shocking revelation, alleging that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had already printed 5 million T-shirts with the number “8” prominently displayed, believing they would secure the 8th position on the presidential election ballot.
According to Captain Smart, the NPP was so confident about getting the number 8 slot that they pre-emptively ordered the production of millions of campaign T-shirts bearing the number. Unfortunately for the party, during the official ballot draw conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC), their representative picked the number 1 position instead.
“The NPP thought they had the number 8 spot in the bag, and they went ahead to print 5 million T-shirts with the number 8 on them,” Captain Smart disclosed. “Now they are stuck with these T-shirts because they picked number 1, not 8.”
Captain Smart further alleged that the printing contract for the T-shirts was awarded to a lady who resides in Tema Community 24. He claimed to have personally traveled to Tema to verify the information and confirmed that the printing of the T-shirts was carried out in the area.
“The lady who won the contract to print these T-shirts lives in Tema Community 24, and I traveled there myself to see it,” Captain Smart said during his broadcast. “The party was so sure about getting the number 8 that they went ahead with the printing, only to end up with number 1.”
The allegations, if true, suggest that the NPP’s campaign strategy may have been thrown into disarray by the unexpected outcome of the ballot pick. With millions of T-shirts now potentially useless due to the incorrect number, the party could face a logistical and financial dilemma.
