Former President John Dramani Mahama says that no effort by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to manipulate Ghana’s history for its political agenda will succeed.
Speaking at an event at Nkroful in the Ellembele District of the Western Region to mark the 115th birthday of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, John Mahama condemned what he described as a deliberate attempt to distort the nation’s history and downplay Nkrumah’s contributions.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer emphasized that Ghana’s historical narrative cannot be altered, despite attempts to embed such revisions in basic school textbooks.
“The hatred and bitterness harbored by those who disliked and hated Nkrumah still erupts from time to time as exemplified in the recent outrage that was expressed by the whole nation at the description of Kwame Nkrumah in the derogatory term of ‘that’s your Kwame Nkrumah’.
“My brothers and sisters, history cannot be revised no matter how you fill our children’s textbooks with different versions of your history,” Mr. Mahama asserted.
He promised that the next NDC government would recognize the festival titled ‘Journey to Nkroful’ as an official event on the national calendar every year.
