In a recent campaign visit to the Sunyani Zongo in the Bono Region, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, assured the Muslim and Zongo communities of his commitment to their welfare. Mahama highlighted that a future NDC government would prioritize policies that uplift the living standards of Muslims across the country, particularly in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
Speaking to a crowd during his three-day tour in the region, Mahama emphasized the integral role Muslim communities play in national development. He urged them to support his candidacy and promised that, if elected, the NDC would ensure their “fair share” in terms of development projects. Mahama underscored education and healthcare programs specifically designed for Zongo communities, aimed at reducing disparities and improving opportunities for growth.
The deputy regional chief Imam, Alhaji Baba Seidu Mahmoud, representing the regional chief Imam, appealed to Mahama to remember the Muslim community in Sunyani, particularly in their efforts to expand an incomplete mosque. He stressed that despite the contributions of the Zongo people, they continue to lag behind in terms of development and urged Mahama to assist in completing the mosque project.
Mahama’s message resonated with the crowd, as he encouraged the Muslim community to continue their prayers and support for his political vision, ensuring them that the NDC’s agenda would uplift their communities if they rally behind his leadership.
