John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for a forensic audit of Ghana’s voters register ahead of the 2024 general elections. According to Mr. Mahama, the integrity of the electoral process is paramount, and any discrepancies or manipulations within the voters register must be thoroughly examined and addressed.
Mr. Mahama made this statement while addressing supporters during his campaign tour at Chiraa in the Sunyani West district of the Bono region. He underscored the importance of ensuring that the will of the people prevails in the upcoming elections.
He warned that any attempts to subvert the democratic rights of Ghanaians would not be forgiven, emphasizing that the people’s voices must be heard through a transparent and credible election process. “We will not forgive anyone who tries to subdue the will of the people,” Mahama affirmed during his speech, rallying the NDC supporters to remain vigilant in safeguarding their votes.
The call for a forensic audit aligns with concerns raised by various stakeholders in Ghana’s political landscape about the accuracy and reliability of the voters register. Mr. Mahama’s demand is seen as a push for accountability to ensure that every eligible vote is counted without interference.
As the 2024 election approaches, Mahama’s stance reiterates the NDC’s commitment to electoral fairness, reinforcing the party’s ongoing advocacy for a transparent democratic process.
