Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, the Dormaahene, has issued a strong warning to the Electoral Commission (EC) to uphold fairness and credibility in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of the main opposition party’s stance, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has threatened not to seek court redress in case of disputes.
The Dormaahene made these remarks during a courtesy visit by NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama to the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, as part of his regional tour.
Speaking at the event, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II expressed concern over the current functioning of the EC, calling for the body to “sit up” and ensure a transparent electoral process.
He also urged the nation’s security agencies to remain vigilant and prevent a recurrence of the violence that marred the 2020 general elections.
“The threats by the NDC of not going to court must not be taken lightly,” the Dormaahene warned, stressing the need for all stakeholders to guarantee a free and fair election.
For his part, John Dramani Mahama has repeatedly called for the EC to be impartial and fair, emphasizing that Ghana’s democracy can only thrive when institutions like the Electoral Commission are transparent.
Former President John Mahama, who is making another bid for the presidency, has said that the upcoming election will be a defining moment for the country’s democratic journey
