Former Akwatia MP, Baba Jamal, has expressed disappointment over the government’s handling of illegal mining, popularly known as “galamsey.”
He stated that Ghana has failed to tackle the menace effectively, leading to ongoing environmental degradation.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, Jamal criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for worsening the galamsey crisis through poor management.
He accused the Akufo-Addo administration of making “political capital” out of the issue without delivering substantial results.
Jamal further revealed that despite offering suggestions along with other opposition members on how to address the problem, the government failed to consider their input.
“Let’s all admit that as a country we have failed in solving this particular problem (galamsey),” he stated.
Adding, “It is worse under their government because of the political capital they made out of it to the extent that the president will come out and say I have put my presidency on the line.”
