On Wednesday, tensions escalated at the Ministry of Finance as members of the *Operation Recover All Loot* (ORAL) Brigade, a youth group aligned with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), clashed with security personnel. The group had gathered to protest what they describe as financial mismanagement under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
The ORAL Brigade, known for demanding accountability, organized the protest to highlight unresolved financial issues, with the $34.9 million Ambulance spare parts deal taking center stage. The deal, intended to enhance emergency medical services in Ghana, has instead drawn accusations of gross financial misconduct. The Brigade alleges that the transaction is marred by irregularities in procurement and fund allocation, turning it into a symbol of financial mismanagement.
Adding to their grievances, the protesters also raised concerns over the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) partnership with Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML). The group questioned the legitimacy of this deal, suggesting a lack of transparency in its execution.
As tensions grew, police attempted to disperse the demonstrators, leading to heated clashes. The standoff reflects rising frustration among sections of the youth, who are increasingly vocal about the government’s financial decisions and are calling for swift action to recover alleged looted funds.
The protest marked another chapter in the ORAL Brigade’s campaign to hold the government accountable, signaling that these youth-driven movements may continue to intensify in the coming months.
