The Awubia Festival 2024, held in the Awutu Senya Constituency of the Central Region, was marked by a stark contrast in receptions for two prominent political figures.
While Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, and Eugene Arhin, the NPP parliamentary candidate for the area, were met with boos and disapproval from the crowd, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, was overwhelmed with support and admiration.
The festival, a significant cultural event in the region, drew a large crowd, eager to celebrate and engage with their leaders.
However, the atmosphere quickly turned sour when Dr. Bawumia and Eugene Arhin appeared on the scene. The crowd’s discontent was palpable, with boos and jeers filling the air.
In stark contrast, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui’s arrival was met with thunderous applause and cheers. The incumbent MP was mobbed by supporters, who praised her dedication and achievements in the constituency. Her popularity was evident, as she effortlessly connected with the crowd, shaking hands, and exchanging pleasantries.
This stark difference in reception raises questions about the political landscape in the region. Madam Tetteh-Agbotui’s warm welcome suggests a strong connection with her constituents, while Dr. Bawumia and Eugene Arhin’s negative reception may indicate a disconnect between the NPP leadership and the local population.
Addressing the gathering, Madam Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui reflected on her stewardship over the past three years, highlighting her achievements since being elected in 2020.
She showcased her entrepreneurship initiatives, such as the Asumapa Initiative, which has empowered over 400 youth in various vocational skills across the constituency. Her educational scholarship program has supported numerous needy but brilliant students, alleviating financial burdens for some parents.
Additionally, she has facilitated multiple surgeries, eye operations, and healthcare services for the vulnerable.
Madam Tetteh-Agbotui also highlighted her infrastructure achievements, including the construction of community centers, the refurbishment of the Bawjiase Hospital into a polyclinic through her lobbies from MTN, and the lobbying for critical road projects, such as the Obrachire Bawjiase Adeiso Road and others.
Accompanying Madam Tetteh-Agbotui were notable figures, including Central Regional Deputy Organizer Joseph Abakah Mensah aka Commander 1, former Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia and former MP for ASW HE David Nana Larbie, and various constituency executives, organizers, and supporters.
This celebration showcased Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui’s dedication to her constituents and commitment to continuing her impactful work in the Awutu Senya West Constituency.
