Bawumia’s Kayayei Skills: Development: 600 Kayayei Empowered Through Skills Training Program

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Kayayei Empowerment Program has successfully trained 600 female head porters (kayayei) from Madina and Ashaiman in various skills.

The three-week program, which ended in a graduation ceremony, equipped the beneficiaries with expertise in soap making, bead making, baking, and makeup artistry.

According to the CEO of the National Entrepreneur and Innovation Program (NEIP), the program aims to train 5,000 kayayei by the end of the year.

He emphasized the importance of empowering youth to become job creators, not seekers, aligning with the Vice President’s vision of promoting entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency.

This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the economic prospects of kayayei, who play a vital role in Ghana’s informal sector.

Eleiham Habibu, speaking on behalf of the graduating students, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his concern and initiative in empowering head porters (kayayei) in Ghana.

She assured that the skills acquired during the three-week training program would be put to good use, making a meaningful impact on their lives and the country as a whole.

“We assure you, Vice President, that we will not rest until we make you proud by utilizing the skills we have acquired to benefit Mother Ghana and our families. Your initiative has added a significant touch to our lives, and we are committed to making a positive impact,” she said.
