Nana Ohene Ntow, a senior policy advisor to Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has stated that the former Trade and Industry Minister will not return to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as some party folks have been saying.
Alan Kyerematen, a founding member of the governing NPP, resigned from the party on September 25, 2023, after he placed third in a super delegates conference which was to prune the 10 flag bearer aspirants of the party to five before the general primary was held to elect the eventual candidate.
Mr. Kyerematen earlier pulled out of the presidential primary before announcing his resignation from the party some weeks later.
He stated that he resigned from the NPP presidential elections as a result of what he described as blatant attack on his supporters.
He said his supporters were treated with disdain without punitive measures by the Election Committee of the NPP to correct the ills that characterised the special delegates’ conference on August 26, 2023.
He added that the monetisation that characterised the first phase of the party’s presidential primary was unprecedented in the history of the NPP’s internal elections.
Alan therefore announced his departure from the party on Monday, September 25, 2023.
The former Minister averred that his continuous stay in the party was further going to bring division and cracks, saying the NPP has been hijacked by a selected few.
This is the second time Mr. Kyerematen has resigned from the party after he resigned for the first time in 2008.
Just as he returned after the first incident, many have predicted same to happen this year with members of the NPP saying he is going to return to his mother party.
But reacting to the issue on Onua TV’s Maakye Tuesday, August 27, 2024, Nana Ohene Ntow stated that those harbouring such expectations are only having a figment of their imagination.
“I don’t know what will make me rejoin the NPP yet. They are saying we are coming back, I Ohene Ntow is saying that Alan Kyerematen has not made up his mind to return to the NPP, you can go and ask him he will tell you, Alan is not going back to NPP, period! They should get it. He wants to serve the nation and if God and Ghanaians approve it, he will come and if he doesn’t, and so what?” he questioned.
Ohene Ntow’s assertion follows an earlier one made by a leading member of Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change, Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, who said Alan would have accepted to be running mate to Bawumia if he had intentions of returning to the NPP.
