The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ramped up its market surveillance efforts, confiscating several unapproved products circulating in markets across Ghana.
This crackdown follows the FDA’s decision to sanction over 100 manufacturing companies from January to date for promoting unapproved products.
During a recent operation, which was conducted with the media present, James Aboakye, the team lead for Market Surveillance, urged the public to remain vigilant. He emphasized the importance of consumers thoroughly checking product details—ranging from food and medicine to personal care items like shower gels—to ensure they comply with FDA standards.
“We conduct market surveillance activities daily. Based on intelligence gathered, we visit different districts and facilities, including pharmacies, marts, shops, and other places selling household items. Our goal is to ensure that all foods and products regulated by the FDA meet the required standards,” Aboakye stated.
