In a significant development in the ongoing parliamentary oversight on State Capture, fresh evidence has emerged, revealing a deepening and widespread canker involving the alleged sale of prime public lands to top appointees and politically exposed persons within the New Patriotic Party (NPP). This revelation, according to Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, underscores the refusal of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government to release the full list of public lands sold, despite Parliament’s persistent demands over the past three years.
The newly intercepted information reportedly sheds light on why the recently launched NPP manifesto remains silent on measures to address State Capture and the controversial sale of state assets. The credibility of the government, already questioned by many, is expected to face further scrutiny following these latest claims.
Hon. Ablakwa, who is spearheading this investigation, released a list of names involved in the alleged transactions. Among the names are:
- Kate Gyamfua (NPP Women’s Organiser) — Purchased on 31st August 2022.
- Ibrahim Mohammed Awal (Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture at the time of purchase) — Purchased on 30th November 2020.
- -Dr. Ernest Yedu Addison (Governor, Bank of Ghana) — Purchased on 31st August 2022.
- -Elsie Addo Awadzi (Deputy Governor, Bank of Ghana) — Purchased on 27th August 2020.
- Maxwell Opoku-Afari (Deputy Governor, Bank of Ghana) — Purchased on 31st August 2022.
- Joseph Boahen Aidoo (CEO, COCOBOD) — Purchased on 30th October 2020.
- Dr. Janet Ampadu Fofie (Chairperson, Presidential Emoluments Committee) — Purchased on 29th June 2022.
- Kwabena Mantey Jectey Nyarko (Board Member, Ghana Airport Company Limited) — Purchased on 22nd October 2022.
- Anselm Ransford Adzete Sowah (Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada) — Purchased on 14th October 2020.
- Anna Asare Oduro (Former NPP Women’s Organiser, Holland Chapter) — Purchased on 25th February 2021.
These transactions, involving prime lands at the AU Village/La Wireless enclave, are being described as a “land grab” orchestrated by the highest echelons of power within the current administration. Hon. Ablakwa has vowed to continue exposing what he calls an “unconscionable and opaque” process until the government responds to the public’s demand for transparency by releasing the full and unredacted list of public land sales.
The legislator also expressed his support for the ongoing efforts to pass a Private Member’s Bill, which seeks to prohibit politicians, politically exposed persons, and top public officials from purchasing state assets.
The public is urged to stay tuned for Part 2 of this ongoing exposé, as more names and details are expected to surface.
For God and Country.
