Johnson Asiedu Nketia has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deliberately churning out falsehood during its campaign launch in the Western Region just to divert attention.
The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the NPP wants Ghanaians to make the lies they told the major debates on the airwaves so that the voter register will not become a subject of discussion.
Citing certain statements made by some speakers at the launch, the Chairman stated that those discrepancies were intentionally created to stir controversy in the airwaves to aid the NPP’s rigging agenda.
“They lied for people to be talking about the controversy,” he stated.
He added that “one lady said they have employed 21 million people and Bawumia said 2.3 million. NAPO said there was no ‘dumsor‘ and he was the same person that asked Ghanaians to provide their own timetable when dumsor came. So it is one of the means to plan their rigging agenda.”
Asiedu Nketia made the comments during an interview with Captain Smart on Onua TV Monday, August 19, 2024.
Thousands of supporters of the governing NPP converged at the GSTS Sunday, August 18, 2024, for the launch of the party’s manifesto ahead of the 2024 elections.
The event followed the party’s mammoth health walk in the Western Regional capital of Sekondi-Takoradi on Saturday, August 17.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong Monday, August 05, 2024, an eleven-member committee was set up to plan for the execution of the event with Oboshie Sai-Coffie as Chair and Abena Asante serving as Secretary.
But Asiedu NKetia says it was a ploy to just divert attention to rigging purposes.
