National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has asked the Electoral Commission (EC) to postpone the upcoming voter exhibition exercise.
He is calling on the National Peace Council and other stakeholders to speak to the Commission to suspend the exercise until it provides the voter register to the NDC.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia, popularly referred to as General Mosquito, in the political space, says as far as he is aware, the register which is supposed to be shared to the political parties ahead of the exhibition has not gotten to the desk of the NDC, that of the NPP he said he cannot speak to.
He was speaking with Captain Smart on Maakye Monday, August 19, 2024, when he made the comments.
He said that the Electoral Commission “should ensure we get the provisional register and if they think we can’t get it, they should make us all meet and postpone the exhibition so we can have a meaningful exhibition. If they want us to have a peaceful election, they should get us the copies of the register first.”
Meanwhile, the NDC National Chairman thinks the NPP out-doored its manifesto as a cover-up for the upcoming voter registration to shield the EC’s failure to provide the register for the parties prior to the exercise.
Thousands of supporters of the governing NPP converged at the GSTS Sunday, August 18, 2024, for the launch of the party’s manifesto ahead of the 2024 elections.
The event followed the party’s mammoth health walk in the Western Regional capital of Sekondi-Takoradi on Saturday, August 17.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong Monday, August 05, 2024, an eleven-member committee was set up to plan for the execution of the event with Oboshie Sai-Coffie as Chair and Abena Asante serving as Secretary.
But Asiedu NKetia says it was a ploy to just divert attention to rigging purposes.
