Suhum NPP: Until I receive an official letter, I consider myself still at post – Suspended executive

The Constituency Communication Officer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Suhum Constituency, Samuel Baah, has responded to his suspension from the party.

The NPP suspended Mr. Baah and other executive, Alhaji Bala Abubakar, the Deputy Constituency Nassara Coordinator, for alleged anti-party activities.

According to a statement from Constituency Secretary Stephen A. Odame, issued on Tuesday, August 13, the executives were found guilty of breaching the party’s constitution through actions deemed divisive and contrary to party principles.

These include campaigning against the party’s parliamentary candidate, organizing processions with anti-party messages, and presenting a petition for the incumbent MP to run as an independent candidate.

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem on Wednesday, Mr. Baah acknowledged hearing about his suspension but claimed he had not officially received a suspension letter.

“Until I receive an official letter, I consider myself still in my position” he said.

Mr. Baah argued that, the reasons for his suspension were not enough to remove him.

He claimed the party’s parliamentary candidate had replaced him with someone else, which led him to support the sitting MP instead.

“I was replaced by someone else, and since I cannot work with him, I am supporting the MP” he said.

In a sharp rebuttal, the Constituency Secretary, Stephen A. Odame, on the same show, confirmed that Mr. Baah had indeed received the suspension letter.

“We sent the suspension letter via WhatsApp, and he has read it” he said.

According to him, per the party rules, the suspension was necessary because his actions breached Articles 3(9)(1) and 3(5)(a)(2) and (4) of the NPP Constitution.”

Mr. Odame said supporting an independent candidate is considered an “abomination” by the party.

He stressed the importance of discipline and unity ahead of the December elections, warning that similar behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Discipline and unity are crucial as we head into the elections,” Mr. Odame added
