Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency, has made a startling admission, revealing that he orchestrated the defeat of Fredrick Opare Ansah in the 2020 primaries, clearing the way for Oboafo Kwadjo Asante to win the Suhum seat.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, Oboafo Kwadjo Asante, the current MP, has announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming election, despite Bryan’s earlier claims that Mr. Asante had agreed not to do so.
This sudden decision has sent shockwaves through the Suhum branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), creating deep tensions within the party.
During a visit to Suhum last weekend, NPP Presidential Candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accompanied by Bryan Acheampong, addressed party members and assured them that they had convinced Oboafo to drop his independent bid.
However, Oboafo had other plans.
At a community gathering in Akorabo on Sunday, Oboafo made a bold declaration that he would indeed contest the election as an independent candidate, directly contradicting Mr. Bryan Acheampong’s earlier statements.
This act of defiance has caused a rift within the party, with Oboafo distancing himself from NPP activities and instead focusing on his own community projects.
Meanwhile, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, the NPP’s official Parliamentary Candidate, is intensifying his campaign, running parallel efforts to Oboafo’s independent bid.
