OSP’s Incapacity to Investigate Airbus ‘Scandal’ Led to Mahama’s Exoneration – NPP’s Haruna Mohammed

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for its inability to thoroughly investigate the Airbus SE ‘scandal,’ which, according to him, led to the exoneration of former president John Mahama.

In an exclusive interview with TV3 on Friday, August 9, Haruna Mohammed argued that the Special Prosecutor’s decision to clear Mahama was not based on comprehensive investigations. He claimed that the OSP lacked the capacity to continue probing the case, which resulted in Mahama’s exoneration.

“The OSP itself acknowledged that it ‘did not get all the facts to the matter’ to support a thorough investigation,” Haruna Mohammed stated.

He further questioned the legitimacy of the OSP’s investigative report, asserting that it does not hold more weight than a court judgement. Haruna Mohammed emphasized that the report was merely an opinion due to the OSP’s incapacity to proceed with prosecution.

“The point is that he said that Mahama is Government Official One. What he wrote is his investigative report, and I don’t think that report has a superior record over a court judgement,” he remarked.

The OSP, after conducting its investigations into the Airbus ‘scandal,’ revealed that John Mahama was identified as ‘Government Official One’ by both the UK and US courts during their investigations. This identification was confirmed by the OSP in a press briefing on Thursday, August 8.
