The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has declared a two-month amnesty for users of uncustomed vehicles—vehicles that have not undergone the necessary customs procedures. This amnesty period, which began on August 1, 2024, and will end on September 30, 2024, provides an opportunity for vehicle owners to regularize their documentation without facing immediate penalties.
In an official statement, the GRA emphasized the importance of taking advantage of this grace period. The authority warned that following the expiration of the amnesty, a nationwide unannounced inspection will be conducted to identify and impound any uncustomed vehicles still on the roads.
“All users of uncustomed vehicles are encouraged to take advantage of this window and regularize documentation of the vehicles that have been illegally imported into the country,” the statement urged.
The GRA’s initiative aims to curb the proliferation of uncustomed vehicles in Ghana and ensure that all vehicles in use comply with the country’s customs regulations. Vehicle owners who fail to comply by the October 1, 2024, deadline may face severe consequences as the GRA ramps up its enforcement efforts.
