Professor Charles Ofusu Marfo, a former President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), has urged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to engage with the media for a national discussion.
This call comes amid ongoing political debates about the possibility of a presidential debate between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer.
During a panel discussion on Oyerepa TV on July 25, 2024, Professor Marfo highlighted the significance of media interaction for Bawumia. Despite the current economic challenges under the NPP administration, Marfo believes media engagement is crucial.
“Yes, I agree he should engage the media. Media engagement will be challenging for Bawumia due to the current economic situation, but I don’t entirely blame him for this,” Marfo said. He added, “Before he meets the media, he should address the 170 questions he posed to the late Vice President Dr. Kwesi Amissah-Arthur during the NDC administration. This will instill some confidence because, at this point, I don’t see the relevance of the debate.”
Marfo further explained that before Vice President Bawumia focuses on debating NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, he should first address the 170 questions he previously raised. “To demonstrate his seriousness, Bawumia should resolve the 170 questions he set for Mahama. He could host a TV show to answer these questions, showing his commitment to addressing key issues,” Marfo asserted.
His remarks come as Bawumia advocates for a presidential debate with Mahama. Marfo suggested that Bawumia could either engage in a media session similar to one recently held by Mahama or publicly address the 170 questions on television. “He should appear on TV and resolve the 170 questions,” Marfo concluded.
