Former Black Stars player Charles Taylor has criticized the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, for not meeting the expectations of Ghanaians.
Taylor expressed disappointment in the minister’s failure to maintain various sports complexes until public backlash forced action.
Taylor, a former Kotoko player, described Mustapha Ussif as the worst sports minister the nation has ever had.
He argued that the recent efforts to fix deteriorating stadiums will not sway voters to keep the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) in power in the pending general elections.
“Six months to elections and they are now coming to fix the stadiums? This will not change our minds about deposing them from government. He [Mustapha Ussif] is the worst minister who has managed our football. Look at the number of things that have been left to rot.
“The funds they get from FIFA and others they have used them. This minister does not respect footballers; he only regards the Black Stars. He should be called Minister of Black Stars, not Sports,” he said on Angel TV.
This criticism follows the sports minister’s announcement that the government is taking steps to address the deteriorating state of several sports complexes, including the Essipong Sports Complex, Dormaa Sports Complex, Azumah Nelson, and Ho Sports Complex, after public backlash.
