Isaac Adongo, Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, for his campaign promise to help Ghanaians acquire phones with installment payments of GH₵1 or GH₵2 per month.
Speaking at the NPP campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, Mr. Adongo emphasized that this promise is not a priority for the country.
Addressing a large crowd, he assured party supporters that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is committed to policies that will genuinely improve citizens’ lives. “With John Mahama at the helm, you will not see the President at Tip-Toe Lane selling mobile phones for GH₵1 or GH₵2,” he stated.
He added, “John Mahama, if we see you at Tip-Toe Lane selling mobile phones to our unemployed youth as a solution to rural unemployment, we will sack you from the presidency.”
Mr. Adongo argued that NDC presidential candidate John Mahama has a better vision for addressing unemployment and creating opportunities for the youth. He claimed that Mahama’s policies would alleviate the suffering of Ghanaians during these challenging economic times.
“One thing I can assure you is that His Excellency will bring policies that will mainstream employment for our youth and bring food to our table,” he said.
Mr. Adongo criticized the current economic conditions, highlighting the high cost of living while questioning the NPP’s solutions. He asserted that John Mahama and his running mate, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, are visionary leaders who can address these issues effectively.
“We are suffering from a cost crisis. The cost of living is very high. When you ask your flagbearer how we are going to solve the problem of unemployment, cedi depreciation, and ensuring there is food on the table, he says that he is going to give the youth one mobile phone so that they pay GH₵1 or GH₵2,” he added.
