CETAG withdraws all services following order for July salary freeze

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has withdrawn all its services following the government’s directive to freeze their July salaries.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on July 22, instructed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to suspend the salaries of all striking CETAG members, except for the Principals, for July 2024.

In response to this directive, CETAG in a statement on Tuesday, July 23, noted that it is withdrawing all of its services following the directive from the Minister of Education.

“In an emergency meeting of National Council, July 23, the council members took a unanimous decision to withdraw all our services including attendance to meetings, congregation ceremonies and provision of academic counselling services as well as supervision of students in the halls of residence with immediate effect until further notice,” part of the statement read.

The association noted that it had referred the illegal directive to freeze their July salaries to their lawyers for the necessary actions.

Meanwhile, GTEC has urged the striking members of CETAG to return to the classrooms, assuring them that their concerns are being addressed.
