President Biden Announces Decision Not to Seek Re-election, Cites Focus on Current Duties

In a surprising announcement today, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. addressed the nation, reflecting on the achievements of his administration over the past three and a half years and declaring his decision not to seek re-election in the upcoming 2024 presidential race.

In his message, President Biden highlighted the numerous accomplishments under his leadership, stating, “Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We’ve made historic investments in rebuilding our Nation, in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans.” He also noted significant legislative successes, including the first major gun safety law in three decades, the appointment of the first African American woman to the Supreme Court, and groundbreaking climate change legislation.

The President praised the collective efforts of the American people in overcoming substantial challenges, including a global pandemic and severe economic downturn. “Together, we overcame a once in a century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We’ve protected and preserved our Democracy. And we’ve revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world,” he remarked.

Despite these accomplishments, President Biden emphasized his belief that stepping down from the re-election race would be in the best interest of the country and his party. “It has been my intention to seek re-election, but I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” he stated.

The President expressed profound gratitude to Vice President Kamala Harris for her partnership and to the American people for their trust and support. “I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me,” Biden said.

President Biden concluded his message with a reaffirmation of his faith in the nation’s unity and potential: “I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do – when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.”

The President will provide further details regarding his decision in an address to the nation later this week. This announcement marks a pivotal moment in American politics as the country prepares for the 2024 presidential election without its incumbent candidate.
