Jean Mensa assures of transparency in December elections

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa has assured that the Electoral Commission (EC) will maintain transparency in the December elections.

She gave the oft-repeated assurance when she appeared before Parliament on Friday, July 19.

Responding to questions from Members of Parliament, Mrs. Mensa emphasised the Commission’s dedication to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections.

“From the registration to the declaration, our processes are embedded with one key ingredient, and that is transparency, transparency, transparency. As such we will continue to operate in the spirit of transparency, fairness and integrity as embedded in our motto,” she assured.

She reiterated that all necessary measures are being put in place to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

Mrs. Mensa’s appearance in Parliament comes amid heightened scrutiny and public interest in the electoral process, with various stakeholders calling for accountability and transparency in the lead-up to the elections.

Many election watchers have pointed to how crucial the 2024 election means to Ghana’s sustained peace and tranquillity, and the need to ensure everything needed is done to there are no hitches.

But the EC Chair, while assuring of what she said are exhaustive preparations being put in place, also pointed out that the issue of security is the role of other institutions.

She said her outfit has introduced rigorous means of collecting data as far as its activities are concerned.

Her presence in Parliament followed requests from members seeking to understand the level of the EC’s preparedness for the upcoming polls.
