Ghana Medical Association announces total withdrawal of services from July 22 if sale of SSNIT hotels is not terminated

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has in furtherance of the nationwide strike action declared by Organised Labour, directed all medical doctors to join the industrial action from Monday, July 15, 2024.

The GMA said in a statement dated July 12 that, “This is to press home the demand for Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to terminate the sale of sixty percent (60%) of its shares in the four (4) Hotels.”

It stated that “The National Executive Council (NEC), following an emergency meeting on 12th July, 2024 to discuss the development, directs the following roadmap for the industrial action:

  • 15th to 17th July, 2024 – Withdrawal of Out Patient Department (OPD) services
  • 18th to 21st July 2024 – Withdrawal of Emergency Services
  • From 22nd July 2024 – Total Withdrawal of ALL services.”

“Members are to adhere to the roadmap stated above unless otherwise communicated by Council,” the statement concluded.
