We must prevent Kenyan-style protests in Ghana – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has emphasised the need to prevent Ghanaians from replicating recent disturbances in Kenya.

For the past few days, Kenyans have embarked on decentralised mass protests against tax hikes and a subsequent demand for the resignation of their President, William Ruto.

While criticising the Akufo-Addo-led administration’s perceived mismanagement of the economy, John Mahama said the next NDC administration will create numerous opportunities, especially for the teeming youth population.

Speaking during a working visit to the La Dadekotopon constituency on July 5, Mahama stated, “They say Africa’s population is youthful and it’s important to have a youthful population. But if you have a youthful population and you’re not creating opportunities for them, then it can become a timebomb.

“We have all seen what is happening in Kenya, we don’t want that to happen in Ghana. And so, when we come, things are going to be different. It’s not going to be business as usual; we want to be a government in a hurry to repair the mess created by Bawumia and Akufo-Addo.

“The people of Ghana are looking at NDC to come and rescue them from the hardships in which they have been plunged…We will do things that will turn the economy around as quickly as possible.”
