Anas slapped with GHc30k cost as Court of Appeal dismisses his appeal over 2-acre land at Tse-Addo

The Court of Appeal has by a 2-1 majority decision dismissed an appeal filed by Ace Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas seeking to reverse the High Court in Accra’s judgment declaring one Adolph Tetteh Adjei as the rightful owner of the land in dispute.

The panel of three presided over by Justice Senyo Dzamefe, affirmed the decision of the High Court which declared one Adolph Tetteh Adjei as the rightful owner of a 2-acre parcel of land situated at the prime Tse Addo enclave.

With Justice Dzamefe dissenting on the decision on Thursday, July 4, 2024, the case titled “Adolph Tetteh Adjei v Anas Aremeyaw Anas & Holy Quaye Suit No. LD/0256/2017” has for the second time been declared for the said Adolph Tetteh ADJEI against Anas.

The Plaintiff, Adolph Adjei commenced the land action against the investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas in 2017.

The case of the Plaintiff was that the said 2-acre parcel of land was rightfully acquired from his grantors who traced their interests to the East Dadekotopon Development Trust (EDDT).

But, Anas through his statement of defense, refuted the claims of the Plaintiff.

The High Court in 2023 then declared Mr ADJEI as the owner of the said land and ordered the Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas to pay businessman, Adolf Tetteh Adjei GH¢60,000 for trespassing on his land.

The High Court presided over by Justice Kwame Gyamfi Osei, also directed Anas to pay an additional GH¢40,000 as a legal cost to the businessman.

Dissatisfied with the judgment of the High Court, Anas and his lawyers appealed against the decision.

However, his hopes were dashed as the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal and awarded a cost of GHc30,000 against him.
