Oncologists at KATH withdraw services due to malfunctioning radiotherapy machine

Doctors at the Oncology Department of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Monday, June 24 abandoned the Consulting Room because the radiotherapy machine has developed a fault since October 2023.

The Water Phantom unit on the machine has been malfunctioning.

“This component is used as a standard device for measuring the dose in the radiation process” an aggrieved doctor who wants to remain anonymous told 3news.com.

The Outpatient Department for Oncology had over a dozen patients. “Only the Head of Department and one clinician are currently attending to the numbers here, the doctors didn’t work” a nurse at the Oncology Department told Evans-Nkum.

In a phone conversation with the CEO of KATH minutes before he entered into a board meeting, he said, “letter of credit has been raised to fix the problem, we have discussed that with the doctors, and we hope they understand the situation” Prof Addai-Mensah assured.
