NLC to sue government over non implementation of CETAG conditions of service

The National Labour Commission (NLC) has said that it will proceed to court to compel government to implement its ruling on the conditions of service of members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG).

The Commission has therefore directed aggrieved CETAG members to call off their strike.

But the leadership of CETAG says, it can only call off the strike after meeting with its constituents tomorrow, June 21, 2024.

The President of CETAG, Prince Obeng-Himah said the NLC will go to court on June 26.

“The NLC will go to court on June 26, seeking to get the government to comply or the employer to comply and on 27th both parties, CETAG and the employer have been directed to appear before the Commission. Meanwhile, the Commission has directed that on the basis of that, CETAG calls off the strike action,” he stated.

The labour consultant for the striking CETAG members, Austin Gamey, indicated that CETAG will meet its constituents and then call off the strike.

“We cannot deny the fact that the Commission listened to the issues we raised, and we can say that they have directed the employer to go and fully implement this particular directive on what the arbitrary award states already.”

“Therefore, CETAG will have to meet with their constituents between today and tomorrow to enable them finalize a decision to return to work,” he explained.
