A storm drain, which is under construction in the Sunyani Municipal Assembly has reportedly collapse.
The storm drain runs through Zongo Abetifi to the Latter Day Saint Church, adjacent the Nana Bosoma Market in Sunyani.
The project, according to the aide of the MCE for Sunyani Municipal Assembly, is a 500 meter storm drain which is at the completion stage.
This unfortunately incident, according to some eye witnesses, occurred on Friday, 14th June, 2024 after a short rainfall on Thursday night.
Mr. Kofi Anokye, who was at the scene of the incident on Friday morning, in a brief engagement with Masemtvgh.com blamed the contractor for what he described it as a ”poor knowledge of work”.
Mr. Kofi Anokye, who is also a trained steel bender of over a decade of working experience attributed the collapse of the storm drain to a poor work.
According to Mr Anokye, his visit to the site revealed to him of how poorly the workers bend steels and how poorly they joint the pieces together.
”Look at the portion where the storm fell and no one will tell you it fell from a joint that was poorly constructed. In steel bending, it applies the same principle of block laying where one course runs over the previous course. This wasn’t how the workers did and I knew there will be a problem” he indicated.
Another eye witness, Mr Nsiah, expressed worry on why portions around the storm drains have not been filled with sand but rather left without cover exposing the concrete works.
”Look at how exposed the concrete works are and the volume of stagnant water around the concrete works. Why wouldn’t it collapse?
The Municipal Chief Executive for the Sunyani Municipal Assembly, Mr John Ansu Kumi on Friday, 17th May, 2024 paid a working visit to the workers on site to access progress of work. The MCE was in a company of other few members including his personal aide at the site.
