Captain Smart, the host of Onua Maakye Show on Onua TV, has launched a scathing attack on government’s handling of the banking sector collapse initiated by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2018.
He highlighted the adverse effects on workers and communities affected by the shutdown of several banks, including GN Bank.
During his ‘Fa Be Wo So’ segment, Captain Smart shared footage showing former banking halls and cars of GN Bank, now turned into churches or abandoned in the bush. He painted a bleak picture of the economic hardships faced by former bank employees, emphasizing the toll on their lives and families.
Captain Smart did not hold back his criticism of President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Bawumia, and the NPP administration. “Akufo-Addo, you are very wicked, God will punish you, your administration and your entire generation. Prayers and cries of GN Bank workers will turn into curses on your head,” he declared.
His comments reflect the anger and frustration of many who have been affected by the banking sector reforms, which saw several banks, microfinance institutions, and savings and loans companies shut down. The government’s intervention aimed to stabilize the financial sector but has been criticized for the manner it was done and the resultant job losses.
