A/R: Angry Kumasi traders call on Dr Bawumia to apologize for disrespecting them

Traders in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region have called on the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party NPP Dr Mahamadu Bawumia to render an unqualified apology over what they described as “unacceptable behavior” on the part of the NPP leader

The traders say they are in shock over failure on the part of Dr Mahamadu Bawumia to show up at a scheduled meeting between them and the NPP’s leader

The traders in a press release signed by the Vice-Chairperson to the Kumasi Market Queens, Nana Wiafe, described the act by Dr Mahamadu Bawumia as an a front to the teaming traders in the region

“The Queen Mother of Kumasi Central Market, Kejetia, Racecourse, Suame and Bantama Markets express our deep dismay and disappointment at the Vice-President’s failure to honor a scheduled meeting with the Queen Mother of all the above mentioned markets”.

“Authorities in the various markets were disappointed by the Vice-President’s glaring disrespect and disregard for traditional authorities”.

The release added that, despite confirmation and hours of waiting, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia failed to show up for the schedule meeting without given them any notice

Below is the full statement

The Queen mothers of the Kumasi central market, Kejetia market, Race Course market, Suame market, and the Bantama market Traditional Authorities Express Deep Dismay and Disappointment at the Vice President’s Failure to Honor a Scheduled Meeting with the Queen Mothers of the above mentioned markets all in the Kumas metropolis.

Today, 10th June, 2024,The Traditional Authorities of the aforementioned markets were shocked and disappointed by the Vice President’s glaring disrespect and disregard for traditional authority. Despite confirmation and hours of waiting, the Vice President failed to show up for a scheduled meeting with the Queen Mothers, a revered and esteemed symbol of our region’s rich cultural heritage.

This unfortunate incident demonstrates a clear lack of regard for the traditional institutions that are the bedrock of our nation’s fabric. The Queen Mothers had graciously taken time off their busy schedules to receive the Vice President, only to be left waiting in vain.

In fact, the queen mothers were gathered with their subjects who are all traders, leaving their businesses even in the face of the excruciating economic hardship that has make businesses unprofitable to meet with the vice president from the hours of 2:00pm upto about 6:00pm. Only for them to unofficially be informed that the vice president can’t make it to the meeting.

We view this as a grave affront to our traditional leadership and a slap in the face to the good people of the Ashanti Region. We demand an explanation and an apology for this unacceptable behavior.

We will continue to uphold and respect our traditional authorities, and we expect the same from our national leaders.

Signed,

NANA WIAFE,
Vice Chairman, to the Kumasi Queen Mothers
0243142679

Kwame Nkrumah,
Operations director to the Kumasi Queen Mothers
