A president who can squander US$58.1million to dig a pit cannot pretend to lack funds to cater for scholarship students – Ablakwa

Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has lamented the hardships being suffered by Ghanaian students on scholarship abroad.

This follows a recent protest by Ghanaian students on government scholarship in Morocco over the non-payment of stipends which has made life unbearable for them in the North African country.

In a statement today reacting to the hardship being faced by the students, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa accused President Akufo-Addo’s government of being inhumane.

He said after spending US$ 58.1 million to dig a pit in the name of building a National Cathedral, the President cannot pretend stipends are not being paid because of lack of funds.

“The harrowing ordeal and sheer inhumanity Ghanaian students on scholarship abroad are being subjected to by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government must stop with immediacy. Government must set its priorities right.

“A President who can squander US$58.1million on the blind side of Parliament to dig a cathedral pit cannot pretend to lack funds to cater for students the government itself sent outside in faraway countries where our fellow young and vulnerable citizens do not have family relations and alternative support systems to rely on. This is how patriotism and love for Ghana is killed amongst the youth,” Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa argued.

In his statement on Facebook, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa promised to urgently work with colleagues when Parliament resumes next week to compel the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government to end this unacceptable governmental torture.

“May God grant our students fortitude, our prayers and solidarity are with you all,” the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee prayed.
