An honest leader is crucial for a country’s prosperity and stability. Honesty builds trust, and people will
trust a leader who is truthful and transparent which can foster a sense of security and stability.
Honest leaders take responsibility for their actions, encouraging accountability and transparency, helping to reduce corruption and ensure fair distribution of resources.
Honesty sets a high standard for citizens, promoting a culture of integrity and ethics; and fostering a positive reputation which could earn a country international respect to attract investment and diplomatic partnership.
Honest leaders’ words carry weight, making their policies and initiatives more credible and effective.
And the honest leadership of H.E. John Dramani Mahama has been put to the test once again. In March 2024, John Mahama, the flag-bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 polls, took his Building Ghana Tour to the Upper East Region where the chief and people of the Kassena-Nankana District made a passionate request for the Tono Dam to be rehabilitated.
The construction of the Tono Dam which used to be one of the largest agricultural dams in West Africa started in 1975 and completed in 1985 by Taysec, a British engineering company. It was established to promote the production of food crops all year round by small scale farmers within an organised and managed irrigation scheme.
The Dam which also served as a major source of water for domestic use has been in a state of disrepair for several years. And even though
H.E. John Dramani Mahama is not in government, has listened to the plea of the people to help, and work has began. The rehabilitation works include dredging, repairing the embankments, and installing new irrigation infrastructure.
The rehabilitation works has been welcomed by residents and farmers in the region, who have expressed their gratitude to Mahama for fulfilling his promise. The improved water supply is expected to benefit thousands of people in the region and boost agricultural production.
H.E. John Mahama has been praised for his commitment to improving infrastructure and development in the country, and his efforts to rehabilitate the Tono Dam have been widely applauded. The successful completion of the project would be seen as a testament to his dedication to improving the lives of people of Ghana.
