With two days left for the ongoing voter registration exercise to end, the Electoral Commission is urging persons who have attained 18 but yet to get their voters ID card to take advantage of the 2-day extended period to register.
Turnout at various registration centres in the Ashanti Region has been low in the past few days.
But the extension of the registration deadline to allow qualified persons secure their Voter ID card has been lauded by all the political parties.
“Once the Commission has come out to extend the period for additional two days, we hope that those who could not register will take advantage of it and get their voter ID card, else they may likely not get another opportunity to do so before the December 7 election. We want to ensure an all-inclusive voters register”, Ashanti Regional Director of Electoral Commission, Benjamin Bannor-Bio advises.

With the exception of some disturbances reported at Tepa and Adugyama during the early stages of the exercise, the voter registration process has largely remained peaceful in the last 19 days in the Ashanti Region.
More than one thousand prospective registrants have however been challenged on accounts of being minors, non-residents, and foreigners.
“We’ve registered 106,251 as at the 18th day of the exercise. 1,085 persons have been challenged. Of this number 578 (53%) were challenged for being underage – below 18 years, 410 (37%) for being non-residents, and 108 (10%) as foreigners or non- citizens.
With the exercise expected to end on Wednesday, May 29, the Electoral Commission has indicated its resolve to serve each and every qualified person who is in the queue before close of registration at 5:00pm.
