In a sharp critique aired on the NDC360 Show, Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of hypocrisy and financial misconduct. He claimed that, after criticizing former President Mahama for sole-sourcing contracts, the NPP has engaged in the same practice, awarding several overpriced sole-sourced contracts, including the Sunyani Airport rehabilitation project, to Vice President Bawumia’s brother.
Gyamfi alleged that the NPP, which had once lambasted the Mahama administration for sole-sourcing, has not only continued the practice but has also awarded contracts at inflated prices. “The Sunyani Airport rehabilitation project is a glaring example,” Gyamfi asserted. “It was sole-sourced to Bawumia’s brother at a significantly higher cost than market rates.”
He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in government procurement processes, criticizing the NPP for not adhering to the principles they once championed. “The same party that condemned President Mahama for sole-sourcing is now indulging in similar activities. This is a clear case of double standards and misuse of public funds,” Gyamfi stated.
Gyamfi’s comments on the NDC360 Show have sparked a broader debate about the integrity of the current administration’s procurement processes. Critics argue that such practices undermine public trust and highlight the need for stricter oversight and enforcement of procurement laws to prevent nepotism and financial mismanagement.
The NPP has yet to respond to these allegations, but the accusations have certainly stirred political waters, with many calling for an independent investigation into the sole-sourcing of government contracts under the current administration. As the debate continues, the public awaits further clarification and accountability from the government regarding these serious allegations.
