EC’s Appiahene leads Bawumia to his former school in Sunyani

Dr. Peter Appiahene was one of the three newly appointed Commissioners of the Electoral Commission whose swearing in generated a lot of criticism and resistance from the opposition National Democratic Congress as well as major Civil Society Organizations in Ghana.

On Monday, March 20, 2023, Dr. Peter Appiahene was sworn in with two other members by President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House as Commissioners of the Electoral Commission.

After his swearing in, the Regional Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress, the NDC in the Bono Region, Mr Charles Akowuah Tuffour, on behalf of the NDC in the region, organized a press conference to give reasons why Dr. Peter Appiahene cannot be a Commission at the EC.

Mr Charles Akowuah on his press conference on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, gave out video evidences where Dr. Peter Appiahene on several occasions, had represented the governing New Patriotic Party as their representative on political discussions especially on local radio stations in Sunyani.

According to the NDC Bono Regional Communication Officer, a known NPP card bearing member such as Dr. Peter Appiahene and the Patron for the NPP students’ wing, TESCON, at the University of Energy and Natural Resources here in Sunyani cannot be trusted to be neutral at the Electoral Commission especially on issues that have to deal with elections.

”Dr. Peter Appiahene has been the TESCON patron of the NPP students’ wing since 2017 and has fully participated in all NPP activities on campus” Mr Akowuah added.

The NDC Regional Communication Officer further provided series of video evidences to indict Dr. Peter Appiahene as an active NPP member who also engages in open partisan politics both on radio and TV stations in Sunyani, the regional capital of the Bono Region.

”On Monday, 23rd November, 2020, Dr. Peter Appiahene represented the NPP on a local base BA TV station here in Sunyani. The host, Mr Kwabena Obeng Akrofi (Royal Servant) introduced Dr. Peter Appiahene as a ‘member of the NPP Bono Regional Communication Team”. In the said video, which was played at the press conference, Dr Peter Appiahene in his introductory comment disclosed his new appointment on the program as the “Regional IT Director of the NPP for the 2020 General Election in the Bono ReBono”.

Dr. Peter Appiahene, a former Head of Department at the Computer Science and Informatics at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani was seen amongst the entourage of the Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia who doubles as the Presidential Candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party.

Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia was on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani as the Special Guest of Honour on the third Annual Transformational Dialogue on Small-Scale Mining.

The program, which was organized by the School of Mines and Built of the University was held at the Sheila’s Executive Hotel on the theme ‘charting our country mining vision and the future of the illegal mining’.
