Dumsor forcing traders to keep petrol, generators in shops – GUTA says, ‘It’s dangerous’ for market safety, security

The current erratic power supply is forcing traders to keep generators and fuel at their shops, a situation that portends danger for avenues and arenas where people converge for commerce, the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) has warned.

“This is not only against the safety and security of our markets but also a dangerous practice necessitated by the dumsor phenomenon, which needs to be fixed expeditiously,” a statement signed by GUTA Director of Communications Joseph Paddy, said.

The union, in the statement, demanded a load-shedding timetable to help traders plan their activities accordingly.

The union said the power crisis has thrown their activities out of order.a

“We express our solidarity with all those affected by this avoidable dumsor crisis and call for urgent action by the government to alleviate the hardship we are going through, especially the business community,” GUTA added.
