In response to escalating tensions stemming from chieftaincy disputes, the Minister for the Interior, acting on advice from the Bono Regional Security Council, has enacted a curfew on Sampa Township in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region. Effective Thursday, April 18, 2024, a curfew will be enforced from 4:00 pm to 7:00 am each day until further notice, as mandated by an Executive Instrument.
The decision to impose the curfew comes amidst growing concerns over the potential for violence and unrest in the area. The government urges all stakeholders, including Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and residents, to exercise restraint and pursue peaceful avenues to address grievances and ensure stability in the region.
Furthermore, a comprehensive ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons is in effect within Sampa Township. Law enforcement agencies will strictly enforce this prohibition, and individuals found violating the ban will face arrest and prosecution.
The imposition of the curfew and weapons ban underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order and fostering a peaceful environment conducive to development in the Bono Region.
