In the wake of the “IT IS POSSIBLE WALK” event held in Kwahu-Mpreaso on March 30th, 2024, Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Alhaji Bawumia, sparked controversy with remarks targeting the flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama. Bawumia’s comments, aimed at discrediting Mahama’s leadership tenure, have drawn sharp criticism from Eastern Affairs.
Expressing disappointment and offense, Eastern Affairs pointed to the current challenges facing the nation under Bawumia’s leadership, including power outages, high taxes on businesses, inflation, unemployment, and a significant debt burden. The organization emphasized the need for accountability and a reflective approach from leaders.
In response to Bawumia’s remarks, Eastern Affairs highlighted achievements credited to John Mahama’s tenure in the Kwahu region. These include the establishment of Community Day Senior High Schools, water projects, road construction, irrigation dams, electricity extension, and healthcare infrastructure.
Of particular note was the Abetifi Referral Hospital, which remains incomplete despite promises from the current administration. Eastern Affairs lamented the lack of acknowledgment of these accomplishments by Bawumia and urged for recognition of Mahama’s contributions to the region’s development.
Additionally, Eastern Affairs condemned remarks made by Food and Agricultural Minister, Bryan Acheampong, linking him to the violent incidents during a bye-election in Ayawaso West Wuogon. Calling for his immediate arrest and prosecution, the organization echoed widespread public condemnation of Acheampong’s comments.
Williams Ampomah Darlas, representing Research and Advocacy at Eastern Affairs, emphasized the importance of holding leaders accountable and fostering constructive dialogue for national progress. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for transparent governance and equitable development.

PRESS RELEASE
SHOWCASE YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS IN KWAHU
Eastern Affairs has taken notice of recent comments of the vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Alhaji Bawumia in the just ended IT IS POSSIBLE WALK which took place in Kwahu-Mpreaso on the 30th of March, 2024 where Alhaji Bawumia sort to discredit the flagbearer of the NDC for his supposed poor performance during his tenure as president and even went ahead to question why H.E John Mahama is seeking to lead this nation again.
We at Eastern Affairs finds this statements emanating from the vice president disappointing very offensive, looking at the current situation we find ourselves as a nation under the leadership of Alhaji Bawumia where power outages is the order of the day, high Obnoxious taxes on businesses which has occasioned a lost in container traffic to Togo, high inflation, high unemployment rate in the history of this nation, debt distress nation as IMF data shows we are their second debtor in Africa, lock up investment of pensioners as a result of a draconian debt exchange measures, plummeting Cedi which is eroding capital of businesses, corruption, poor infrastructure development outcomes in the last seven years etc.
The people of Kwahu as well as well meaning Ghanaians that throng Kwahu for the Easter festivities were rather anxious to hear some remorseful and apologetic comments from our vice president for driving this nation into the abyss as well as short-changing the Kwahu traditional area with regards to development.
We would like to jog the memory of the Vice President on the achievements of HE John Mahama in the Kwahu Traditional area;
1. Community Day SHS in Fodoa in the Kwahu West Municipality
2. Community Day SHS at Maame Krobo in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District
3. Community Day SHS atMem-Chemfre in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District
4. Kwahu water project with it station at Kotosu in the Kwahu East district
5. Construction of Asphalted road from Nkawkaw to Mpreaso
6. Irrigation dam at Amatey in the Afram Plains South District
7. Electricity extension in Kwahu South, Kwahu East and Afram Plains South and North
8. Abetifi Referral hospital in the Kwahu East District which has been abandoned by Alhaji Bawumia and Mr. Akufo Addo
9. New ferry at Agordeke in the Afram Plains North district
It is therefore deeply regrettable that amidst the unprecedented borrowing by Alhaji Bawumia in last couple of years he could not take the opportunity to mention their achievements within the enclave despite high electoral benefits that has been accrued to the New Patriotic Party since the start of the Fourth Republic.
What is equally disheartening is the consistent reckless comments from the Food and Agricultural minister Bryan Acheampong who is connected to the atrocities meted out to citizens during a bye elections at Ayawaso West Wuogon. Eastern Affairs would like to join the wide condemnation of Bryan Acheampong’s reckless comments from Ghanaians and urge the Ghana Police service to take immediate steps to arrest and prosecute him for the reckless comment.
