The Deputy Minister-designate for the Energy Ministry, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has declared that the government is actively working to address the recent power disruptions witnessed in various parts of the country within the upcoming two weeks.
Former Power Minister Dr. Kwabena Donkor expressed reservations regarding Ghana’s electricity generation capacity, challenging President Akufo-Addo’s assertion in Parliament that there has been uninterrupted power supply for the past seven years.
The Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC) has identified insufficient fuel supply as the cause of the recent sporadic power outages and plans to collaborate with Independent Power Producers to find effective solutions.
Adomako-Mensah reassured the public in an interview with Citi News, expressing the government’s full commitment to resolving the issue.
He acknowledged the recent power outages and underscored ongoing efforts to rectify the situation within the next two weeks.
“I acknowledge that over the past two or three weeks, there have been some power outages. It’s noteworthy that the two-week power disruptions prompted the Minority to hold a press conference. While I am still settling into the [Energy] Ministry, my preliminary interactions with the officers indicate that steps are being taken to address this within the next two weeks.”
