Ningo-Prampram legislator, Samuel Nartey George, has asserted that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s omission of any mention of corruption in his 2024 State of the Nation address signifies the deep entanglement of his government in corrupt practices. According to the opposition lawmaker, corruption has prevailed over the Akufo-Addo administration, suggesting that the president and Vice President Bawumia have been defeated and brought to their knees by corruption, preventing them from acknowledging it during the address.
During the State of the Nation address on February 27, President Akufo-Addo covered topics such as governance, security, industry, and the upcoming 2024 elections. He urged Parliament to promptly approve outstanding tax exemptions from 2021 to send positive signals to the business community. The president highlighted the significance of the “One-District-One-Factory” policy, a flagship initiative aimed at stimulating and diversifying manufacturing across the country using locally available raw materials.
President Akufo-Addo reported substantial progress with 321 1D1F projects, including 211 new medium to large-scale factories and support for 110 existing companies. He emphasized the creation of 170,000 jobs under the 1D1F program. Additionally, the president urged the House to urgently consider and approve outstanding exemption applications to support the 1D1F initiative.
In response, Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accused the Minority in Parliament of obstructing the 1D1F initiative by blocking exemptions for companies. Ahiagbah asserted that if these obstacles were removed, more jobs could be generated through the initiative, blaming the opposition, particularly the NDC and Mahama, for the challenges faced.
