The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has unequivocally stated that the party’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, is the ideal choice for preserving the integrity of the public purse, citing his unwavering commitment to combating corruption.
Addressing attendees at the ‘Moments of Truth’ series in Accra on Monday, February 19, Gyamfi asserted that the current flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, lacks the credibility needed to effectively tackle corruption.
In drawing a comparison between the two candidates, Gyamfi argued that Mahama has consistently demonstrated a strong stance against corruption, while Bawumia has shown limited action in the fight against corrupt practices.
Gyamfi emphasized Mahama’s commitment to eradicating corruption, stating, “H.E John Dramani Mahama has proven, both in and out of government, that he abhors corruption and will neither condone nor shield perpetrators of corrupt acts.” He highlighted Mahama’s pledge to end the era of a “corruption clearing agent” on January 7, 2025, if elected as President.
Contrastingly, Gyamfi criticized Bawumia, labeling him as corrupt and asserting that he cannot be relied upon to combat corruption effectively, accusing him of dishonesty and corruption during his tenure as Vice President and Chair of the Economic Management Team.
Gyamfi further condemned the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration for its alleged failure to address corruption after seven years in power, urging voters to reject them in the upcoming December polls.
“We call on the Ghanaian electorate not to allow President Akufo-Addo and his corrupt cabal of family and friends to install as President their puppet (Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia),” Gyamfi declared, expressing confidence that Ghanaians will reject corruption, nepotism, impunity, and economic mismanagement in the 2024 elections.
