Bawumia has a significant vision deficit- Fifi Kwetey

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has strongly criticised the ‘vision document’ outlined by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) last week.

Bawumia, in a lecture in Accra, outlined his plans to transform the country’s economy ahead of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. However, Fifi Kwetey, at a press conference on Wednesday, accused the Vice President of lacking the vision and leadership Ghana needs.

Dr Bawumia, the Head of the government’s economic management team, proposed in his lecture to abolish taxes imposed on Ghanaians by his government, such as the e-levy, emission levy, and betting tax. He also suggested that if elected in December, his government would appoint only fifty ministers and deputies, reducing his target from the opposition leader John Mahama’s sixty ministers promise to Ghanaians.

The NDC scribe contends that Bawumia, whose economic team has plunged Ghana into its worst economic disaster, failed to address the increase in importation despite claiming to shift focus towards export and should not be trusted by Ghanaians.

Kwetey compared Bawumia’s leadership to former President Mahama’s, highlighting the latter’s successful efforts in the cocoa sector, which yielded 960,000 metric tonnes of cocoa production. He emphasised the decline in cocoa production to below 500,000 metric tonnes under Bawumia, further emphasising the lack of vision and bold solutions from Bawumia.

“I cannot believe that Bawumia, who appears to have no clear vision or direction, has the audacity to boast about his bold solutions. Let me be clear – Bawumia’s lack of vision is massive, and he cannot be compared to Mahama in any way, shape or form,” he added.

He argued that the NPP’s new leader has a significant vision deficit and cannot be compared to the NDC’s Mahama in any way.
