A number of senior cabinet ministers are likely to lose their places in government as President Akufo-Addo prepares to announce a major shake-up in his government, Starr News has gathered.
President Akufo-Addo in times past has brushed off calls for him to reshuffle his ministers, but with recent pressure from party members including the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, a ministerial shuffle according to sources is imminent.
The President at the beginning of this month, replaced some 26 MMDCEs in what many say was a precursor to his final ministerial reshuffle.
Sources reveal that many of President’s Akufo-Addo’s stalwart ministers who have served over the past 7 will be relieved from government with some reassigned and others replaced.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, who survived numerous calls for his removal is finally set to be replaced by Mohammed Amin Adam who moved to the Ministry as a Minister of State from the energy ministry a year ago. It however remains unclear if Ken Ofori-Atta will resign from government or will be reassigned to the Jubilee House as a minister of state.
Health Minister and Dormaa MP Kwaku Agyemang Manu and Interior Minister and Nandom MP, Ambrose Dery, are also likely to be replaced by the President.
Greater Accra Minister and Ayawaso Central MP, Henry Quartey and NHIA boss NPP Ledzokuku Parliamentary candidate, Bernard Okoe Boye have been tipped as the men heading to the two ministries respectively. The two having served as Deputy Ministers of the respective ministries during the President’s first term.
An exodus of all ministers who opted out of NPP Parliamentary Primaries is also expected. Roads Minister, Kwasi Amoako-Atta imminent removal is likely to have a domino effect on Works and Housing Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and his Deputy Fatimatu Abubakar who will likely fill various gaps created.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has also been booted out of government resulting in a shake-up in the leadership of the majority bench.
A shake-up in the leadership of majority bench in parliament is also expected as Deputy Majority leader and Efuttu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin has been tipped to replace Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.
Local Government and Environment ministries have also been earmarked for some change in leadership.
The re-shuffle per Starr News sources is also likely to see some 10 ministers and deputy ministers who lost their parliamentary primaries entirely axed from government.
