In a historic ceremony at the Gbewaa Palace this morning, the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom bestowed the esteemed title of Dalung-lana upon Alhaji Mustapha Adamu Amadu Sanah, marking a significant moment in the region’s rich cultural and traditional heritage. The event was attended by a multitude of dignitaries, including the newly enskinged paramount chief and over 17 aspirants who vied for the throne.
Alhaji Mustapha Adamu Amadu Sanah’s ascension to the position of Dalung-lana is a testament to his standing within the community and his commitment to the values and traditions of the Dagbon people. The Overlord, in a symbolic and traditional ceremony, handed over the sacred symbols of authority, signifying the investiture of Alhaji Mustapha Adamu Amadu Sanah as the paramount chief of the Dalung Traditional area.
The competition for the throne was fierce, with 17 aspirants, each bringing their unique qualifications and background to the forefront. Among the notable contenders was Alhaji Lawyer Mumuni, a retired politician with a storied career in Dagbon’s political landscape. Alhaji Lawyer Mumuni, a former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, a distinguished former Foreign Affairs minister, and the erstwhile Presidential Running mate to the late Prof. Mills, added a layer of political experience to the selection process.
The Gbewaa Palace served as the epicenter of the intense deliberations, where the aspirations and visions of each candidate were presented before the royal council. The proceedings showcased the vibrant democratic traditions inherent in the selection of paramount chiefs within the Dagbon Kingdom.
