Bono NDC Women’s Organizer wins Presiding Member for Berekum Municipal Assembly with 92.37 percent

The Bono Regional Women’s Organizer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been overwhelmingly elected as the new Presiding Member (PM) for Berekum Municipal Assembly.

Hajia Fati Abubakar, on Monday, February 12, 2024 was elected as the Presiding Member (PM) at the first session of the assembly meeting held at the Municipal Assembly.

The Bono Regional Women’s Organizer for the NDC, at the end of close of nominees for the Presiding Member position, was the only elected assembly member, who filed her nominee to contest for that position.

Subsequently, Hajia Fati Abubakar, pulled a whopping 36 votes out of the 39 total votes cast of which 2 were rejected while one person voted against her nominee. The 36 votes represents 92.31 percent of the total votes cast.

According to reports, 40 delegates were expected to cast their votes at the sitting but the Member of Parliament was the only absentee at the sitting.

Hajia Fati Abubakar, is the Assembly Member for Zabbo Zongo Electoral Area at the Berekum Municipality. Reports say, she has been an Assembly Member for the third consecutive times for that electoral area.
